I’ve seen a lot of complaints regarding the use of a real actor’s face (a well known one at that) for the new SH.
I personally don’t mind at all, since this is a technique that has been used quite a lot recently in games. Furthermore, this is not the first time they use real faces to make a character in a SH game.
I am talking about SH2. Remember how, in the making of, we got to see how they used the faces of the voice actors and based the characters off them?
Of course, the likeness was not quite there, and as technology goes by, we see better results over time.
Now you may say, BUT it’s a known actor!
See, if you’ve played games recently you may have noticed a FANTASTIC GAME that used several well known actors as main characters. The likeness was jaw-dropping and it did IN NO WAY interfere with the experience at all.
I am talking about the great game that is Beyond: Two Souls.
Look at that. What we got here in this image are the two main characters of the games (and there are more known faces in it), Willem Dafoe and Ellen Page.
They’re both super popular and their likeness in the game is TOP NOTCH. But they are playing the roles of characters in the game as if it was just another movie. Just as it should do.
So in the end, even if we know the actors, we quickly forget about who they are and just play the game interacting with them as the characters they are, not as the actors.
When you play Beyond, you don’t play as Ellen Page. You play as Jodie. The fact that she is a popular actress doesn’t make the game experience any less special or less immersive.
By the way, I highly recommend everyone to play that game.
Aaand that’s all. Let’s go back to the silly posts :D
